Ward Union Pony Games Information
Mounted Games is a team competition that requires courage, determination and all round riding ability from team members. A key focus of the activity is fun with friends and with your ponies.
The games season on a normal year is relatively short, kicking off in June each year and concluding in the middle of September usually at the national Ploughing Championships.
The games system is divided into three age categories (Child must meet age profile listed on 1st January of the year competing )
- Under 10’s ( lead rein and non lead rein option)
- Juniors(Under 13 )
- Seniors (Under 16 )
In under 10’s can be supported in lead rein if needed. Lead rein games session takes place at the same time as the non lead rein session but judged separately.
For every team you need 5 members , 4 might only participate in some games but you have your squad of 5 to pick from, and you can change team members around each game. Sometimes the 5th member has a dismounted role in the game. So if a pony does not like a certain piece of equipment, that game can be avoided!
For every under 10’s/ junior/ Senior team you need a dedicated arena team , typically made up of 2 parents who develop a good understanding of the games for that age group and can set them up for their team during changeover.

Fun games sessions may be scheduled across the year so keep and eye on the events page for updates. From April through August on, we try and host regular games session, again planned dates and times for these will highlighted under the events page. If you would like to be added to games information group please submit your name and number.
There is no charge to attend WUPC games sessions. To support this it is key, that parents at the training sessions get fully involved in the games set up. There will be plenty of guidance on how each game is set up. We will hold some friendlies with local clubs, the Meath and the Bray Pony Clubs.
The IPC games committee host a range of games competitions and we like to send teams where possible. Entry fee for IPC competitions is circa €15- 20 per child. They are a great fun day out for kids and parents alike.
